The FAA has released Changes 1 and 2, dated March 16, 2010 for the Instrument Rating Practical Test Standards (PTS). A new printing of ASA-8081-4E includes these Changes, which are noted in the information located at the upper-right corner on the cover.

The FAA has released new Practical Test Standards (PTS) for the Instrument Rating. The new standards, effective January 2010 have been updated to reflect current rules, operating procedures, and technology. This new edition adds special emphasis areas for icing hazards, anti-icing and deicing equipment and operations, and single-pilot resource management. A new Area of Operation has been added for Preflight Preparations: Pilot Qualifications. A Judgment Assessment Matrix was added as an Appendix. Throughout the book, readers will find new and additional entries outlining requirements on advanced technologies, including GPS, glass cockpits, terrain and weather displays.
The Practical Test Standards are guides written by the FAA for students, instructors, and FAA-designated examiners to know what is expected of pilots during a checkride. ASA reprints the most current FAA Practical Test Standards in handy, cockpit-sized booklets.
